The 2008 Sichuan earthquake was a deadly earthquake that occurred on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan Province of China. Tens of thousands of people lost their lives and millions lost homes. To help the disaster relief, NUFF established an “Earthquake Fund” to raise money. With the total donation of more than $50,000 from our alumni and friends, NUFF distributed $3,000 to a fund operated by Nanjing University to help its students affected by the earthquake, $12, 184 to China Red Cross, and $36, 174 to a school in Sichuan Province (四川省绵竹市兴隆学校) to build an electronic reading room (电子阅览室) which is equipped with more than 30 computers or laptops, 2 digital cameras, printers, software with 100,000 digital books, etc. The reading room was built inside the school library  which was sponsored by the Business School of Nanjing University. The reading room has been open to students and staff since December 2009.
