NUFF Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Phone Conference

9 – 10 pm, Sep 17, 2011

Attendees:

Fang Zhou (in lieu of Mei He for SunJingLee Fund), Michael Chen, Xinghe Yang

Discussion Topics:

1.      NUFF and SunJingLee scholarships for school year 2011-2012 -- Zhang Zhi (南京大学校友总会) contacted NUFF asking whether the number and award amount of scholarships for school year 2011-2012 would be same as last year. Here is the consensus from attendees:

·         Same as last year:

·   for NUFF: ten $500 and six $250 awards

·   for Sun Jing Lee: two $500 and two $250 awards

·         Nanda will provide application materials with equal number of freshmen and sophomore candidates for NUFF to review in Fall 2011

·         To clarify some history of NUFF scholarships, NUFF shall attach a written document describing the source of the scholarship money and total award amount over the years when sending the recipient list to Nanda later this year. The mail shall be CCed to Nanda Vice President Ren Lijian since she is pretty much in the dark about NUFF’s flagship program, according to Michael who met her this summer.

·         Due to the decreased value of US dollars, NUFF shall re-consider the award dollar amount for next year or near future. One suggestion would be to increase the award amount from $500 to $600 and from $250 to $300.

2.      NUFF financial update

·         NUFF filed its tax return for 2010 tax year (4/1/2010 – 3/31/2011) in August 2011. Our 2010 income is about $8,800 and expenses about $7,700 with about $1,100 coming from the savings.

·         Other than the donations for Jianguo Memorial fund and from LA donors via AMGEN organization, the donation activity is almost not existent.

·         Very disappointing response for donations with online search and shopping via http://www.goodsearch.com

3.      Newsletter – not discussed since the primary contributor for this (Ning Ge) is not present

4.      NUFF chairman election – tentatively set to May 2012

5.      Action items:

·         Collecting materials for newsletter (Ning)

·         Review the scholarship application materials once received (Xinghe)
